County government has a responsibility to provide safe learning environments, support children's nutrition and wellbeing, and equip young people with the skills needed to thrive in a rapidly changing economy.
The Problem
Many ECDE centres operate with inadequate classrooms, insufficient learning materials, and limited sanitation facilities. Some children attend school hungry, making it difficult for them to learn and reach their full potential. Vocational Training Centres often lack modern equipment, qualified instructors, and industry-relevant programmes, leaving many young people without the practical skills needed to secure employment or start businesses. As a result, too many learners are left behind at the very beginning of their educational journey.
Our Solution
As Governor, Babu Owino will strengthen Nairobi's devolved education system by investing in quality early learning and practical skills development:

Modern ECDE Centres: Upgrade classrooms, sanitation facilities, playgrounds, and learning resources to provide safe, child-friendly environments across Nairobi.

School Feeding Programme: Expand nutritious school meals in county ECDE centres to improve attendance, concentration, learning outcomes, and child health.

Quality Teachers: Recruit, train, and support qualified ECDE teachers while providing continuous professional development to improve learning outcomes.

Modern Vocational Training Centres: Upgrade VTCs with modern workshops, digital technology, and industry-standard equipment that prepares students for today's job market.

Market-Driven Skills Training: Align vocational courses with Nairobi's labour market by expanding training in construction, ICT, electrical installation, plumbing, automotive technology, hospitality, fashion and design, beauty services, green technologies, and entrepreneurship.
